The Nairobi club library is located adjacent to the upstairs lounge on your way to the rooms; we are now coming to the end of the refurbishments, which will give a modern face to the interior while at the same time retaining the unique historical value of Kenya’s past.

Membership:
We charge an annual subscription fee of Kshs. 1000 for full membership and half the amount for those who join us between the month of July and the remainder of the year. So far we have 210 active members and the list is growing steadily as we proceed with refurbishment and improvement of the library facilities as well as the services rendered.
For our reciprocating and overseas members, we have a special arrangement for them to use the library facility during their stay here for as little as Kshs. 100.00.

Books:
We have in our collection a wide range of books totalling to 7500 titles.
Our books are classified into over twenty categories ranging from autobiographies, politics and economics to thrillers, poetry and standard works.
Among the most prominent and popular Authors in our collection are Danielle Steel, Sidney Sheldon, Jeffrey Archer, John Grisham, Ngugi wa Thiong’o , Elspeth Huxley and many more.
Books recommendation is done by Members of the Library each time they feel necessary and selections done by the Library Committee every second Tuesdays of each month.

Special books/Africana: 
We also stock several volumes of books on formative African history and history from other parts of the world from the missionaries/explorers point of view, these are books that speak on the creation, activities and cultures of various peoples of the world.

Reference Books
We keep reference books like Encyclopedia Britannica, Dictionaries, atlases etc. These cannot be borrowed but can only be read within the Library.

Borrowing Periods:
The following periods are allowed for the retention of books:-

  • Town Members : a maximum of fourteen days
  • Country Members : one calendar month except in the case of new books which Country Members may only retain for fourteen days.

Newspapers & Magazines: 
The Nairobi Club Library also keeps past issues of newspapers both Local and International for later reference and our members. Besides the local dailies, we have the daily and Sunday editions of the Times and Telegraph, the Independent, Financial Times, Herald Tribune and the weekly publication of the International Express, Sunday Express, The Observer and the Guardian Weekly.
To cater for our lady member’s taste, we have Good Housekeeping and style magazines plus the Time, Newsweek, Reader's Digest and the Economist Magazines for current affairs.
We keep newspapers and magazines for three months or so for reference before selling them off as old newspapers.

Environment:
 
The setting of the library offers a tranquil atmosphere conducive for studying and reference, proximity to food and beverage outlets makes it easy to be catered for without undue inconvenience of moving about.
Access to photocopying, fax and internet services is an added advantage.

Library Committee: 
Affairs and activities of the library are coordinated and supervised by the Library Committee.
This Committee comprises of ten members including the Chairman and Main Committee’s liaison Member Currently Mr. C.N. Umamaheswar (Raju)
The Nairobi Club Library committee hold it’s Annual General Meeting in the month of May every year to review the performance of the past as well as receive proposals to elect new committee members to replace the outgoing, if need be.

The Librarian:
There is always the librarian present to assist Members identify and locate the right choices of books to read. He is also open to book suggestions and any feedback on how to improve and enhance our services.

Library working hours: 
The library is open on six working days from Monday to Saturday (11:00hrs - 14:00hrs and 16:00hrs - 19:00hrs.) We are closed on Sundays and public holidays.
This Schedule is under review and any changes on the library hours shall be communicated to members accordingly.
